Beginner's Guide to Motorcycling

In order to ride on the roads without L plates you must to the following

Get a provisional licence

Take your CBT ( Compulsory Basic Training ) This can vary in price from around £80 to £150, depending on where you decide to go. You can do this on either a geared or automatic bike.

Acquire a motorcycle - buy rent or borrow

Insure your bike

Practice on the roads with L plates, take lessons if needed. You cannot ride without L plates yet, carry passengers or ride on motorways.

Take your theory test (book with the DVLA)

Take your practical test (book with the DVLA)

Get your full licence!

The preparation and the test is just the beginning... Do not believe you can actually be safe and ride after you have passed. This is just the start of the learning process; the learning takes place when you start riding on your own and develop your skills as a rider.
