Many motorbike riders under estimate the importance of the subject “Bike Fit” and this is often a source of debate.
Bike Fit can relate to both you and your bike and this is important if you are about to depart on a motorcycle tour or just go out for a run at the weekend.
First of all let’s cover the subject of “is your bike fit”?
How many people just jump on, turn the key and go out for a run, without carrying out any checks whatsoever? The answer is far too many!
Not even so much as to check whether lights and indicators work. Everyone should get into the habit of carrying out some basic checks to ensure their bike is roadworthy since the last time it went out/came in.
Are you bike fit?
Too often people book a motorcycle holiday/motorbike tour without considering if they are bike fit. Bike fit doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to go to the gym and workout…although it can help.
When we talk about being bike fit, we mean used to spending lengthy periods of time in the saddle
This is one of the biggest issues we encounter on our motorcycle holidays. Too many think that because they have done a tour last year they can just jump on the bike and do it again. Some think that because they ride every weekend that they can just jump on their motorbike and ride 150-250 miles a day for 5, 6 7 or more days in succession.
Our advice is to try and get some longer runs under your belt before the tour. Maybe get a long weekend of 150+ miles per day. Time in the saddle before the tour is time well spent.
Failure to ensure that your bike is fit can result in mechanical failures, missed signals, being unseen by other road users etc etc and that’s when accidents can happen.
Failure to ensure that you are bike fit can result in tiredness creeping upon you and that’s when accidents happen.
Make sure your bike is fit and that you are bike fit! It not only makes the ride more enjoyable, but it can save your life.
