Explanation
Born Again Biker A biker who has 'had a little holiday' and returned to the pleasures of biking
Backfire This describes the explosion of unburned fuel in the exhaust system
Baffle silencer A small device that sits in the exhausts system to reduce noise output
Bearings These are small cylindrical devices used for moving turning parts (wheels and steering for example) to bear the load and wear of these moving parts.
Belt drive Used mainly by Harley Davidson, this term is used to describe the final drive to the wheel.
Bike bitch A person who only ever goes pillion (and can't ride themselves)
To 'bin' it To crash, normally causing a lot of motorcycle damage
Black ice This term describes ice on the road that cannot be seen as it is transparent (not black) and is extremely dangerous to motorcyclists as it is normally very slippery (more than normal ice).
Blind corner This describes a corner where oncoming traffic and the road ahead cannot be seen due to trees, houses or obstructions
Block pass This term is used in racing - an overtaking motorcyclist 'parks' their motorcycle in front of the racing line used by the other motorcyclist. This means the overtaking party comes into the corner quicker than the other bike and brakes hard right in front so the other motorcyclist is forced to slow mid corner.
Blown rider gasket A wound leaking copious amounts of blood.
Brake horsepower This term describes the measure of an engine's power without the loss in power caused by the gearbox, generator, differential, water pump, and other components. This is, therefore, NOT the same power output felt at the rear wheel (measured by a dynamometer).
Brakes Normally consisting of two caliphers that press brake pads onto discs attached to the wheel to slow the bike.
Breakers A motorcycle company specialising in taking apart (normally) damaged motorcycles to sell for parts.
Bump start As in 'push start' - When there is no other way to start the motorcycle (i.e. broken kickstart / flat battery), put the bike into gear and pull the clutch in, run along and release the clutch. with sufficient speed and the right gear the bike will start.
Bubble Describes the motorcycle screen. 'Double bubble' describes a raised screen designed to provide more rider protection from wind resistance
Bungee cord A strong elastic cord used to attach things to the back of motorcycles
Burnout This describes the act of burning the rear tyre caused by the wheel spinning quickly with the motorcycle stationary. Doing a burnout consists of holding the front brake (hard) and quickly accelerating so that the rear wheel loses grip.
