Which motorcycle? |

Most riding instructors recommend a street bike for new riders. Street bikes (i.e. motorcycles without fairing with a much higher and more upright riding position) are generally easier and less painful on the wrists to ride than other more sporty motorbikes. Another major benefit is there is less to damage in the event of a crash due to the lack of fairing. Most new riders start on the smaller motorcycles (50cc, 125cc and 250cc) and move upward as they become more comfortable and gain experience. Enduro and trials motorbikes are sometimes ideal due to their light weight, efficient fuel consumption and value for money. I do not recommend a learner or newbie buying a sports bike over 400cc for their first purchase, no matter how old or how much road experience they have. Motorcycling is a steep learning curve and you do not want to make it any steeper for yourself. If you do want to buy a massively powerful shiny sports bike I highly recommend buying a sporty 125cc, 250cc or 400cc motorcycle for at least a year or two to gain experience.
