| Hairpin |
A particularly tight 180 degree turn in the road |
| Handgrip |
The grip on the end of the handlebars |
| High side |
A high-side is where the bike suddenly regains traction after beginning to skid and throws the rider over the bike. The rider typically exits on the high side of the bike - the side not closest to the ground. |
| Hit and run |
Describes when a road user hits a pedestrian or other vehicle and does not stop to check whether they are okay or pay for damage in fear of the consequences |

| Hog |
Nickname for a Harley Davidson motorcycle |
| HORT/1 |
A producer given by police officers when someone who has been stopped cannot produce documents such as
Driving Licence, HGV Driving Licence, Certificate of Insurance, MOT Certificate. The HORT/1 gives the road user seven clear days from the date the producer has been given to go to the police station to provide the said documents. |

| Hydroplane |
This is caused when the wheel meets a plane of water at high speed. The ridges and grooves in the motorcycle tyre are unable to remove the water from between the tyre and the road and the motorcycle is left without grip - the motorcycle ends up riding on water which can be a very dangerous situation. If you ever find yourself in this situation, try not to make any movements or changes in direction or speed. Concentrate on balance (don't touch brake or throttle) until the hazard has passed and you have slowed sufficiently to increase grip. |
